Allan Mi'kskimmiisoka'simii "Iron Shirt" Pard Memorial Award
Allan (Mi’kskimmiisoka’simii “Iron Shirt”) Pard was a highly respected and beloved Piikani Nation Elder and ceremonialist, active in ceremony and numerous sacred Societies. Working for the Government of Alberta for more than 30 years, Allan was integral to a large number of Alberta Culture and Tourism initiatives and served as a senior adviser to the Ministry of Indigenous Relations. He constantly strived to bridge relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples by fostering environments of understanding and respect.
Eligibility -Candidate Pool
- Continuing or new full-time (FT) graduate student in any program
- Demonstrate financial need
- From the Blackfoot Confederacy: Siksika, Piikani (North and South Peigan) and Kainaiwa (Blood) who actively participates and contributes to their Blackfoot culture and heritage through activities of preservation, interpretation or celebration.
Criteria-Ranking Pool
- Demonstrated participation, contribution, and/or expressed interest in connecting to their culture and heritage through activities of preservation, interpretation, or celebration
Payable
- Payment upon confirmation of full-time or part-time enrollment at the University of Lethbridge in the Fall and Spring semesters immediately following the granting of the award.
