Professional Development
Professional development is about more than preparing for a career. Within the Graduate Student Medicine Wheel, professional development supports the Mind (Wisdom) dimension by helping students build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and experiences needed to succeed during graduate studies and beyond. Through workshops, mentorship, experiential learning opportunities, and career-focused programming, graduate students can strengthen their leadership, communication, and professional skills while exploring pathways that align with their personal and professional goals.
In partnership with organizations on and off campus, SGS offers a diverse range of learning experiences. Many opportunities are eligible for recognition on the MyExperience Transcript, helping students showcase their skills and experiences to future employers.
The School of Graduate Studies' approach to professional development is guided by a professional skills framework developed by the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS), which supports a common national approach to the development and recognition of professional skills among graduate students.
