Narcisse Tatsikiistamik “Middle Bull” Blood Memorial Award
A highly respected member of the Blackfoot community and the Elder to the Indigenous Chapter of the University of Lethbridge Alumni Association, prominent Blackfoot filmmaker and former sessional instructor, Narcisse (Tatsikiistamik “Middle Bull”) Blood was highly respected throughout the University community also. He was a true teacher, showing compassion, curiosity and creativity. He taught at Red Crow College and the U of L, and lectured at universities across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Blood worked closely with the U of L Faculty of Education to develop courses that led to a better understanding of Blackfoot culture. His contributions to the University have been described as significant and enduring.
Eligibility-Candidate Pool:
- Full-time students who are entering or continuing in any undergraduate or graduate degree program at the UofL
- Students must be from the Blackfoot Confederacy: Siksika, Piikani (North and South Peigan) and Kainai (Blood)
Criteria-Ranking Pool:
- Demonstrated participation, contribution, and/or expressed interest in connecting to their culture and heritage through activities of preservation, interpretation, or celebration.
Payable:
- Payment upon confirmation of full-time or part-time enrollment at the University of Lethbridge in the Fall and Spring semesters immediately following the granting of the award.
Recipient Selection:
- The recipient will be selected by a committee comprised of representation from the Student Awards Office, Indigenous Student Advisor (or a representative from Iikaisskini (Low Horn) Indigenous Gathering Place) and a traditional Blackfoot Elder
