Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF)
Purpose
To support and encourage top graduate students within the University of Lethbridge to further their studies in research, within the Western Grains Research Foundation (‘WGRF”) research priority areas as posted on the WGRF website. WGRF has committed to increasing funding for research capacity, including support for the training of highly qualified personnel that can move into research or other positions impacting western Canadian crop production. WGRF funds a broad range of research in variety development and crop production in 15 different western Canadian field crops.
Eligibility:
- Entering or continuing full-time master or doctoral students in a thesis-based program.
- Pursuit of research in alignment with the research objectives of the Western Grains Research Foundation: priority areas are posted on the WGRF website.

- Apply online by completing the Graduate Application through the University of Lethbridge’s awards, scholarships and bursary application portal
- A completed application requires specific award questions as as portions of the Graduate Application:
- Research/project Title
- Project or Research Proposal/Intent
- 2 Academic Reference Letters
- All Transcripts and CV
- Please provide a statement on how your research aligns with the priorities of the WGRF.
