CIHR Strategic Masters Award

The purpose of the CIHR Strategic Master's Award program is to provide financial support to scholars who are engaged in an eligible master's program in Canada and that are relevant to specific CIHR priority research areas. This support allows these scholars to concentrate on their studies in their chosen fields.
Research Areas
This funding opportunity will support projects relevant to the following research areas:
- Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies – Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies
- Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and Health Data Science in genetics and genomics– Institute of Genetics
- Sex, Gender and Intersectionality in Health Research– Institute of Gender and Health
- First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis Health, and Indigenous Health – Institute of Indigenous Peoples' Health

Criteria

- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a Protected Person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) as of the application deadline date
- full time graduate program must include a significant research component that leads to the completion of a thesis, major research project, dissertation, scholarly publication, performance, recital and/or exhibit that is merit/expert-reviewed at the institutional level as a requirement for completion of the program.
- no more than 18 months in program as of Dec. 31st with a minimum of 12 months of study remaining upon award activation
- not be currently holding a CGS M scholarship from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC however you can apply for both this opportunity and the general TriCouncil CGS M

- Be sure to obtain your official transcripts even if there are no grades in your current term.

Q&A sessions for master’s students the new CIHR Strategic Master’s Award program. This session will be dedicated to an overview of the program and a question-and-answer session. Participants will have the opportunity to ask their questions during the presentation through MS Teams when they sign into the session.
