SKOLROOD Arthur Harold, born May 2, 1928 at Maidstone, Saskatchewan, died at home in Saanichton, B.C. on July 7, 2003.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Isabelle; their children, Sharon (Mike Trivett), Ron (Jane Murdoch), Sheila (Gary Richardson) and Doug (Tina Lefebvre); grandchildren Kristen and Graham Trivett, Hannah and Sam Skolrood and Natalie and Elena Richardson; brothers Cecil (Eisie) Skolrood of Maidstone, Saskatchewan and Wayne (Irene) Skolrood of Ladner,B.C. and Isabelle's sisters Daphne (Gordon) Robertson of Chemainus, B.C. and Ann (John) Herbert of Victoria, B.C.. He was predeceased by his parents and two brother.

Harold was the oldest of five sons born to Arthur and Margaret (Maggie) Skolrood. Upon graduating from Maidstone High School he attended the Saskatoon Normal School where he obtained a teaching certificate and then began his teaching career in a one room rural school. He subsequently pursued further studies at the University of Saskatchewan, the University of British Columbia and the University Of Oregon, where he obtained his Doctorate of Education.

In the early and mid 1960's Harold taught at various public schools in Burnaby, B.C. . In 1967, he joined the faculty of the newly created University of Lethbridge as a founding member of the University and its Faculty of Education. He taught there until his retirement in 1989 and he was subsequently named Professor Emeritus.

Following his retirement, Harold and Isabelle enjoyed many travels together and wonderful times with family and friends at their vacation homes on Flathead Lake, Montana and the Gulf Islands. After 30 rewarding years in Lethbridge, Harold and Isabelle returned to B.C., moving to Saanichton in 1996. Harold will be lovingly remembered for his wisdom, wit and the genuine interest that he took in the lives of the people around him.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul's United Church, Sidney B.C. on Tuesday, July 15, 2003. The family warmly appreciates donations in Harold's name to the Victoria Hospice (1952 Bay St., Victoria, B.C. V8R IJ8) or St. Paul's United Church (2410 Malaview Ave., Sidney, B.C. V8L 2G3).
