Koep, Bob

Faculty of Education
1936 to 2001

DR. R0BERT (BOB) KOEP of Lethbridge passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre on Monday, February 5, 2001, at the age of 65 years.

He is the loving father of: Mark, Gregg, Robert, Jeff, and Kathryn; and grandpa to seven grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Marjorie Koep; two brothers, Ken and Jim Koep; and by Margaret, mother of his five children. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Veronica, and by two sisters, Eleanor and Louise.

Dad was born in Humboldt, SK, a prairie boy from the start. Upon completion of high school, he moved to Saskatoon to pursue a University education (B.A., B.Ed.). During this time Dad met and married our mother, Margaret. At this time he also had his first brain tumor from which he miraculously survived. The strength, determination, and positive attitude he displayed in the face of overwhelming odds were reflective of the man he was. After moving to Lethbridge in 1958, Dad began a long and distinguished' career, first as a teacher and administrator with the Catholic School system and then as a professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Lethbridge. The shift from teacher to professor was facilitated by the completion of his M.A and his Ph.D. degrees in Eugene Oregon. In both capacities he touched many lives and became an integral part of the community

Upon retirement in 1994, Dad fulfilled a desire to do voluntary work overseas in the South Pacific under the auspices of V.I.C.S. (Volunteer International Christian Service). Over the next five years, Dad spent time doing what he loved most--teaching. Dad returned from Fiji in June of 2000 and was diagnosed with his second brain tumor.

Dad was an extremely spiritual man. His love of God carried him through many challenges throughout his life. His Catholic faith instilled in him a strong desire to help others. Dad was a man of simple pleasures who loved nothing more than a coffee and a chat. He was always there, quietly supporting us, never judging, and always reminding us that, with the right attitude, life was an "easy case". We love you Dad.
