Dr. George Lermer, age 62, a long- serving faculty member and Dean Emeritus of the Faculty of Management, passed away accidentally as the result of a fall while skiing at Castle Mountain Resort, near Pincher Creek, Alberta, March 15, 2003. He is survived by his spouse, Ineke, daughter Toby (and three grandchildren), and sons Leonard, Noah, and Eli. Dr. George Lermer joined the faculty at the U of L in 1981 as the Director of the then-School of Management. He later became the Dean of the School of Professional Studies, and finally, the first Dean of the Faculty of Management in 1986. He retired in 1997, after more than a decade of building the Faculty and expanding its programs and services.

Following his retirement, George worked as a consultant and continued to teach at the U of L and, most recently, Athabasca University In 2000, he received a Distinguished Sen/ice Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, which recognized his outstanding work in helping the Institute with its education program.
