The Department of Materials Management handles all of the E-Waste generated on campus. All University surplus computer/electronic equipment is recycled. This process involves the coordination of many departments.
- Departments: Complete an Equipment & Furnishings Declaration form. Send the form to Financial Services which will track the surplus items.
- Materials Management: Coordinates the pick-up of all equipment.
- Information Technology: Receives all surplus computers to ensure that the hard drives are cleared of information. The department also determines if the equipment is in working order. If so, the equipment is transferred to another requesting department, used for parts or listed for sale on the University’s Notice Board.
If any computer equipment is to be recycled, Materials Management coordinates the pickup of the equipment which is then recorded and removed from campus. It is the responsibility of Materials Management to stack all equipment in a bin provided by Recycle Logic. When the bin is full, Recycle Logic will pick up the bin and replace it with an empty one. This bin is replaced approximately three times per year.
