Prerequisites & Waivers
Some philosophy courses have prerequisites to ensure students have the necessary background for success.
If a student thinks they are ready to take a course without its prerequisites, a prerequisite waiver is possible.
To request a waiver, contact the course instructor. If they agree to allow you to enroll, they will help you complete the waiver form. In filling out the rationale portion, indicate the background qualifications that will allow you to succeed in the class without the prerequisite. (Being interested in or needing the course to graduate are not in themselves rationales for a waiver).
The prerequisite form should then be sent to the Department's Administrative Assistant for circulation for signatures. Once signatures have been received, the form will be returned to you. It is your responsibility to submit it to Arts & Science Advising (Markin Hall, M2102).
