Health benefit coverage
At the University of Lethbridge, Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) that are paid through the University's payroll system are eligible for supplemental health benefits coverage. This supplemental health plan provides additional assistance for hospital, medical and dental care expenses that are not covered by Alberta Health Care (e.g., prescription drugs, ambulance costs). The cost of this coverage is covered by the Faculty Supervisor and enrolment is coordinated by the University’s Pension and Benefits team.
You and your dependents are required to be enrolled in this supplemental plan unless your dependent has comparable coverage (verification required). The plan is currently provided through Alberta Blue Cross. For information regarding opt-out procedures and/or to provide proof of alternate coverage, please contact Human Resources.
Note: Coverage starts on the first day of employment.

If you are ineligible for extended health benefits (e.g. funded by external awards where the money is not paid through the University payroll system, or if your research is entirely outside of Canada), you are encouraged to make private arrangements for benefit plans and insurance coverage.
