Early Career Researcher Award in Asthma
Asthma is one of the most common chronic respiratory diseases in Canada affecting over 10% of the population (3.8 million people) with well-recognized biological sex differences. Asthma disproportionately affects children and youth and is a leading cause for emergency room visits and hospitalization in children. Chronic airway inflammation affects the health, wellbeing and quality of life of individuals and those caring for patients with asthma.
The goal of the Early Career Researcher Award in Asthma is to support and enable Canadian researchers early in their independent research career to pursue basic, lcinical, health services or population health research in the field of asthma.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be an independent researcher appointed at an eligible insitution as defined by CIHR, and have a written commitment from their Institution, via a letter from the Dead of their primary Faculty or Research Director of their primary Research Institute which accompanies the application, that includes a commitment to protect a minimum of 50% of the applicant's time to resarch activies relevant to the proposal submitted, limiting clinical service and/or teaching and/or administrative activities to a maximum of 50% of the Nomiated Principal Applicant's (NPA) time for the duration of the award.
- The Applicant must be an Early Career Reseracher within the first 84 months of their first academic appointment by the application deadline.
- In the case of creation of a new faculty position, applicants must submit confirmation via a letter from their Dean or Chair of Division Director to clarify the specifics of their new appointment (i.e., amount of protected time available, local infrastructure in place). This information can be included within the required institutional support letter.
- At the time of submission deadline, the Nominated Principal Applicants are ineligible if they hold or have already held peer-reviewed grants as NPA with a total sum value of $300,000 or more. This include, but is not limited to, peer-reviewed funding from CIHR, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), or Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). In addition, those currently holding another similar salary award, such as a Canada Research Chiar Award, New Investigator Award or early Career Investigator award from any source will be considered ineligible.
