About
I have been an Associate Professor of Public Health at the U of L since 2017 where I serve as the director of the Physical Activity, Transport & Health (PATH) Research Group. I am committed to assisting students develop understanding of key concepts and issues in population health, health promotion and research methods. I encourage my students to develop an ethos of evidence-based practice and a desire to engage in knowledge translation activities to bridge the gap between research and practice.
In 2020, I was nominated as Board of Governors Research Chair in Children’s Physical Activity. My research is focused on physical activity from a population health perspective, with a particular interest on active transportation, independent mobility, and outdoor play. I have published my first book, Children’s Active Transportation in 2018. I have contributed to the development of the Position Statement on Active Outdoor Play – a document which has inspired many to encourage children to be active outdoors. I am currently leading a national longitudinal study examining changes in movement behaviours and their determinants.
