About

Turkey is a transcontinental country located mainly on the Anatolian Peninsula in Western Asia, with a smaller portion on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. It has a rich historical and cultural heritage, being the home of ancient civilizations like the Hittites, Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines. Turkey is known for its diverse landscapes, including stunning coastlines, majestic mountains, and unique geological formations such as Cappadocia. Istanbul, the country's largest city, straddles Europe and Asia and is famous for its historical sites like the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Turkey is also renowned for its delicious cuisine, blending flavors from the Middle East, Mediterranean, and Central Asia.

Eskişehir is a vibrant city located in northwestern Turkey. Known as "Eski" by locals, it is often referred to as the "City of Students" due to its numerous universities and youthful atmosphere. The city is renowned for its picturesque Porsuk River that runs through the center, adorned with charming cafes and pedestrian-friendly streets. Eskişehir is also famous for its thriving arts and culture scene, highlighted by the Odunpazarı Modern Museum, which showcases contemporary art exhibitions. Additionally, the city boasts beautiful green spaces, including the lush Sazova Park and the Eskişehir Zoo, making it a great destination for nature enthusiasts.

The climate in Eskişehir is moderate with winter temperatures averaging -2°C and summer temperatures averaging 26°C. The largest climactic change is between the day and night with temperatures ranging from 29°C and 12°C.

The European academic structure varies from the North American system. Courses completed at a European exchange partner will not be transferred back to the U of L on a course-for-course basis. Rather, students will be required to successfully complete a certain number of ECTS (European Transfer Credit System) credits to earn U of L credit equivalency. Typically, a full course load is 30 ECTS, and 6 ECTS = 3 U of L credits.

Most courses at Anadolu are between 3-5 ECTS. Therefore, U of L students must combine courses within the same stream to earn equivalent credit.

You are eligible for this exchange if you are:

  • A full-time U of L student
