Print Studio & Silk Screen Studio
The Print Studio (L804) is a spacious studio in which all levels of printmaking are held. Students can work on a range of techniques including relief printing, intaglio, and lithography. The Silk Screen Studio (W844) is a smaller space where screens are prepared, exposed, and printed.
The Print Studio is equipped with intaglio, lithography, and relief printing equipment, including a Takach combination etching litho press, a Charles Brand press, an American French press, and two small book presses. An adjoining “acid room” has a large sink for graining litho stones, spray booth for acrylic paint aquatint, an area for preparing plates with hardground, and an etching sink enclosed by a fume hood.
L804 is also equipped with an iMac and an Epson DS-50000 scanner.
The Silk Screen Studio uses entirely water-based inks and environmentally safe chemicals, and is equipped with a washout sink and pressure washer, and vacuum exposure unit with digital timer. Three printing stations are also available which students may reserve for 2.5 hour blocks of time by using the sign-up sheet posted at the door.
After receiving the necessary training, students enrolled in a Printmaking class, as well as Senior students working with printmaking processes, are given 24-hour access to the studios. Equipment necessary for completing assignments, including silk screens, etching tools, and relief carving tools, can be signed out from W838.
