Indigenous Events & Initiatives

 

Celebrating the rich cultural heritage, beliefs and aspirations of Indigenous Peoples everywhere, Iikaisskini Indigenous Services hosts several Indigenous-focused events and activities throughout the year.

Activities include:

  • Welcome Back BBQ
  • Indigenous Awareness Week
  • National Indigenous Peoples Day
  • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day)
  • Indigenous graduation initiatives

Participate in a round dance, learn about Indigenous programming at ULethbridge and meet students, staff and faculty during these annual events!

 

Upcoming Events

June is National Indigenous History Month and June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. This is a time to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions and contributions of Indigenous Peoples to communities across Canada.

Join us for National Indigenous Peoples Day on campus  June 19, 2024!

At 11 a.m., there will be a Blackfoot prayer and smudge with Elder-in-Residence Ninnaisipistoo (Owl Chief), Francis First Charger in the Iikaisskini (Low Horn) Gathering Centre (W650) followed by a discussion — "What it means to be Niitsitapi” — and light refreshments, hosted by Iikaisskini Indigenous Services.
