Key Steps

How To Apply

Once you have been in contact with the Student Enrolment and Registrar Services and applied for full-time admission, you can now apply for housing, even if you have NOT yet been officially admitted to the University. You will need your 9-digit U of L student ID number to complete our online application. Housing Services is not responsible for determining your academic eligibility. On-Campus Housing is only available for students completing a University of Lethbridge degree.

*Note: A room offer ("Offer of Accommodation") cannot be sent until a student officially ACCEPTS their Offer of Admission to the university.

If you are going to be 17 years of age upon move-in day:
You can still apply for housing, but we will require a parent or guardian to sign a Residence Procedure for Minors form upon acceptance of the Offer of Accommodation for on-campus housing. The form allows you to sign your Housing contract (Single Students Housing License Agreement) and Dining Plan contract yourself. All minors will be housed in Alcohol-Free Suites.

Applications open on September 15 every year for the following academic year. Continuing students are encouraged to apply early as our first round of offers is a lottery for those who have applied prior to the January 15 deadline. You can apply individually and allow us to match you with a suitemate, or you can mutually request a roommate on your Housing application. Based on demand and application date, the subsequent offers will be sent out at a later time. Keep in mind that the earlier you apply, the more likely you are to get your choice of first or second room preference. So apply as soon as applications open if you know you would like to live with us next year!

Remember: You must MUTUALLY request each other!

Roommates are assigned based on compatibility through the algorithm of the questionnaire on the housing application.  Requested roommates are placed together provided they are mutually requested where possible. Roommate requests are not guaranteed in the event a student is not eligible for a room style (continuing vs first year), and if a unit has already been filled  (late applications etc.). We make every effort to match people with similar lifestyle habits, such as whether they study with or without music, whether they prefer to go to bed early, how tidy they prefer their surroundings, and more. We recommend you fill out your Profile Questionnaire honestly so we can match you accurately.

How to request a roommate:

On your Housing application, there is a spot where you can request living with a specific person. To be considered, you both:

  • Must be eligible to live in the same buildings and rooms (First year and continuing students cannot be placed in the same residence spaces)
  • Mutually request one another
  • Fill out the lifestyle portion of the housing application with the same criteria

Students who wish to live together can be placed together as roommates if they meet the criteria above; however, roommate requests are not guaranteed.
