About
Oki! My name is Monica and my pronouns are she/her. I work as a Communications Specialist in the office of Communications, Marketing and Government Relations at the University of Lethbridge. I primarily provide communications and marketing support to the Faculty of Fine Arts and work centrally with the CMGR team on strategic communication initiatives and priorities.
Prior to joining ULethbridge, I was a journalist and a student. I earned my BA in Sociology from ULethbridge, winning the Faculty of Arts & Science Gold Medal (Arts) for my academic and extracurricular achievements. I also hold a diploma in Communication Arts - Broadcast Journalism from Lethbridge College and previously worked in northern Alberta in radio news.
I have written academically on rural journalism and professional identity, on the duty of journalists who report on injustice, as well as on sound engineer experiences of microaggressions in recording studios. I have presented work at several conferences, including the annual Congress for the Humanities and Social Sciences. My journalistic work has been featured in BeatRoute Magazine, The Meliorist, and online for several radio stations in Alberta.
