Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies Museum Studies Internship

The Department of Art invites applications for a 4-month internship with the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff, Alberta, Canada in either Fall 2024 or Winter 2025. The University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts Internship Award offers students the opportunity to combine their education with work at the Whyte Museum in the Art, Heritage, and Archives areas. The internship coincides with either a Fall or Spring semester. This is an exceptional opportunity for students interested in a career in the field of Art History, Museum and/or Curatorial Studies.


Value:

  • The University will provide each intern with $125.00/week to a maximum of $2000.00.
  • The Whyte Museum will provide accommodation in Banff for the duration of the internship.
  • The duration of the internship will typically be twelve (12) weeks of full-time work, to coincide with a Fall or Spring semester.
  • In consultation with the Department of Art Internship Supervisor, internship projects will further educational and professional interests of the intern and be linked to the priorities of the Whyte.
  • The intern will receive credit for three (3) courses (the equivalent of9 credit hours) in Museum Studies.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be senior level undergraduate students enrolled in either the B.F.A. – Indigenous Art (AHMS) or the B.F.A. - Art (AHMS) program.
  • Applicants who have successfully completed MSTU 4000 are preferred; students who have completed at least one MSTU course and who have significant relevant volunteer or work experience may be considered.
  • Students must be able to work in Banff for the duration of the internship.

Criteria:

  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated excellence in Art History and Museum Studies courses, and demonstrated excellence and professionalism in museum or gallery work.
  • Recipients will be selected by a committee comprised of members of the Department of Art, Faculty of Fine Arts.
  • This is a competitive award and proposals will be adjudicated on the merit of submissions.
