The University of Lethbridge is adding two new graduate programs for health and business professionals who want to expand their skills in health-care management. The new programs, which will be offered at the U of L’s Calgary campus, include a graduate certificate and master’s in Health Services Management. Both are designed for health-care practitioners and entry-level managers who want to move to more senior positions.

A team of researchers at the University of Lethbridge is conducting research in a quest to uncover the mechanisms that make glioblastoma such an aggressive cancer, with hope the results could lead to new therapeutic interventions in the future. Glioblastoma (GBM), the brain cancer that killed Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip and former American senator John McCain, has a dismal prognosis and survival rate.

For his advocacy of Indigenous rights and self-governance, and his work to promote access to education for Indigenous peoples globally, Dr. Leroy Little Bear (BASc (BA) ’72, DASc ’04) has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. He is one of 103 new appointments announced by Gov. Gen. Dr. Julie Payette (DSc ’05) on Dec. 27. Professor Emeritus Little Bear will receive his insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
