Back in 1967, the founding faculty members of the University of Lethbridge’s Faculty of Education were probably too busy establishing the program to imagine what the next 50 years might bring.

Canada’s centennial university is turning 50 this year and is calling all alumni and friends of the University of Lethbridge to come home to celebrate, September 1-3 at Homecoming 2017.

A pair of third-year University of Lethbridge classes, one in biochemistry and the other in new media, unknowingly shared a synergy until the AGILITY program brought them together. The end result is a new game that could enhance the learning process of one of the most difficult courses in biochemistry and provide a deeper understanding of the value of collaboration and the game creation process.

University of Lethbridge residence students don’t know who Bette and Pete Greidanus are when they first arrive on campus, but by the time they leave, they’ve become two of the most important people in their university experience. On Thursday, the University of Lethbridge recognized Bette and Pete Greidanus for their tireless commitment to supporting U of L residence students by presenting the couple with the 2017 University of Lethbridge Volunteer Award. Bette and Pete have made an indelible impression on the lives of countless U of L residence students.

Over the next two days, the University of Lethbridge will celebrate the achievements of 1,428 students as they cross the stage at the Spring 2017 Convocation. Ceremonies take place Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 at the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day. All ceremonies are free and open to the public and media.

The University of Lethbridge is excited to celebrate the achievements of its newest graduates at the 2017 Spring Convocation, June 1 and 2, in the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness. Distinguishing themselves among the many outstanding graduates are the U of L’s medal winners for 2017. They are as follows: Gold Medal of the Governor General – Megan Morman (Ceremony I) Awarded to the student with the highest academic standing at the graduate level.

For Dr. Jennifer Mather, being a great teacher is also about learning. She has dedicated herself to learning the craft of teaching since joining the University of Lethbridge as a psychology professor in 1985. Her commitment to students has helped prepare them for lifelong learning and sent them into the world equipped to be responsible global citizens. For her contributions to education, the U of L is pleased and proud to present Mather with the Distinguished Teaching Award. She will receive the award at Spring Convocation, Ceremony I at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 1.

An activist, advocate, educator and artist, Jamie Ahksistowaki Medicine Crane (BEd ’05) has made an indelible impression on the way education is delivered to Indigenous communities, all the while promoting Indigenous rights, women’s rights, human rights and justice. The University of Lethbridge Alumni Association is pleased to recognize Medicine Crane as the 2017 Alumna of the Year.
