- Who are your influences?
I like to think that everything I've read has become an influence for me over the years, every small piece combining into a larger whole. My first real obsession as a child was The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, leading into my love of Brandon Sanderson's fantasy books. As I've grown older and started dabbling in poetry, Mary Oliver's writing has held a special significance for me. I've also recently become fond of creators such as Mike Flanagan, Matt Haig, Jonathan Sims, and Toshikazu Kawaguchi, who use tales of the fantastic (and sometimes horrible) to tell stories that are at their core deeply human.
Image - Describe your artistic style.
I enjoy dabbling in a variety of styles, genres, and forms, so I don't know if my style is particularly easy to pin down! I enjoy odd metaphors and layered, intricate descriptions, with characters that depict life in all its messy, beautiful glory.
- In your free time, what do you like to do?
I love to write (shocking, I know), and I'm also a huge reader. I also love Dungeons and Dragons, so maybe it all comes back to storytelling for me.
- What advice would you give aspiring artists?
Don't write for an audience. Write the stories that you need to hear, and trust that you're not alone and other people need to hear them too.
