It's widely accepted that men avoid going to the doctor, often to the detriment of their health. The University of Lethbridge Health Centre is tackling that problem by bringing health advice to men, in an easily accessible format.
The second annual Men's Health Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second level of the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness. Bringing together display booths from several off and on-campus organizations; the fair is a one-stop information shop for men's health issues.
"I will have tables to deal with eye health, blood pressure checks, proper sleep, dental health and various other topics," Health Centre Coordinator, Health Education, Dianne Carter, says.
The Sexual Health Centre will also be there to offer different birth control options as well as information regarding sexually transmitted infections.
Food and beverages are available for the men and their partners who choose to attend the event. Carter is championing the event with the slogan, "'Real Men' take charge of their health".
"It is set up as a very informal display where the participants can wander through and attend any booth that they find interesting," Carter adds. "There is valuable information at each display, a fun interactive element as well as some free goodies for the attendees as well."
