A recent heavy overnight snowfall has left some areas of Lethbridge experiencing power outages or interruptions, primarily in the south, downtown and north sections of the city.

Recent information released by the City of Lethbridge indicates that power is now working in most areas of the city. It is expected that full power will be restored sometime this evening. City crews are working as quickly as possible to correct the issue and restore power, but residents should continue to conserve power to avoid further over-loading the system as it comes back on line.

The problem was traced to an Altalink power line that provides power into the city's distribution system.

The weather is improving and the snow is melting, which brings up more items to be aware of:

- watch for water pooling around homes

- clear gathered snow towards streets or other locations where it can melt quickly

- check your sump pump regularly

- drive slowly around emergency vehicles and staff

- with freezing temperatures expected this evening, drive cautiously as roads will become icy overnight.

To ensure street clearing can be done as quickly as possible, and that storm drains can be kept clear for melting snow, please remove vehicles from streets to allow city crews to clear as many roadways as possible.

The University of Lethbridge remains open Wednesday, Apr. 14 and will be open Thursday and Friday, Apr. 15 & 16, as usual.

The City of Lethbridge deactivated its emergency operations centre at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. No state of emergency was declared.

The U of L's community/campus radio station CKXU 88.3 (FM) is operational and is broadcasting any updates or closures as they receive them.
