Ron Berezan, known as the Urban Farmer, returns to the University of Lethbridge Thursday night to give the second of two Lethbridge talks.
Berezan is on campus thanks to the Campus Roots Community Garden group. Earlier in the day he is presenting at Garden View Lodge as he addresses strategies for growing herbs, vegetables, fruits and berries in your garden. At the U of L, Berezan's talk, The Growing Revolution - Lessons in Food Security From Cuba, discusses the shift that Cuba was forced to endure following the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. Gone were the fossil fuel and agricultural imports the country was so dependent on, and it forced Cuba to undergo a dramatic shift towards low-input, ecological agriculture encouraging more citizens to grow food in rural and urban areas alike. Berezan asks how these lessons could be applied to our society.
His lecture goes from 7 to 9 p.m. in PE250 and everyone is welcome to attend.
