Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre to reopen with limitations on Monday, August 10

As part of supporting a healthy relaunch, the University of Lethbridge and Horns Recreation are pleased to announce the Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre will reopen with limitations on Monday, August 10. Drop-in bookings to the facility and registration for Horns Recreation Fall programs are open as of today, Wednesday, August 5.

In addition to the pool reopening, the Day Use and Member Change Rooms will be available for people using the Centre for Sport & Wellness. Entrance to the facility is available through the south doors of the 1st Choice Savings Centre only and parking in Lot G is free until Aug. 31.

Similar to the current booking system for the Fitness Centre, Stadium, climbing wall, gyms and track, each person will need to book a time slot in advance.  This measure allows us to control the number of patrons in our facilities and allows for necessary cleaning between users. Visit Drop-In Recreation Bookings to book a time slot or register.

Some aquatic programs, including private swim lessons, remain suspended at this time. For the most up-to-date information on our programs, visit Horns Recreation.

Procedures

As of Monday, Aug. 10, masks will be mandatory at the U of L. Please bring your own mask if possible. Disposable masks will be made available at the facility entrance for anyone without a mask. Masks are to be worn while navigating to and from the pool area.

All patrons will be required to take a shower before entering the pool. Personal belongings can be stored on the pool deck in designated areas. Physical distancing will be enforced and promoted at all times.

Some facility features, including the viewing gallery, diving platform, steam rooms and rope swing will remain closed, in accordance with the Lifesaving Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories guidelines.

Facility users who participate in the Fitness Swimmer Program will be able to log their swims from home or from a portable device using the new mobile-friendly version of the site.

Flutter boards will be available for use and will be thoroughly sanitized after each use. All other equipment such as flippers, pull buoys and pool toys will be unavailable at this time.

The facility will be thoroughly cleaned and regularly sanitized throughout and at the end of each day, according to Lifesaving Society guidelines.
