The City of Lethbridge has released information relating to the the city's response to continuing rainfall, and also the anticipated snowfall which Environment Canada predicts could arrive early in the evening on Wednesday, Apr. 28.
The University of Lethbridge, as it did previously, will remain open unless otherwise indicated.
Anticipated Winter Storm Response
City of Lethbridge Public Operations Water & Wastewater and Transportation and crews are currently responding to blocked catch basins, overland drainage problems and problems with the storm sewer system resulting from the current rainfall.
Transportation Operations road crews have parked the street sweepers and are preparing the graders, plows and sanders for the predicted heavy snowfall.
Parks Operations Urban Forestry crews are preparing to deal with any tree damage as a result of the predicted heavy snowfall.
ROAD CLOSURE -- Bridge Drive
As of 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Bridge Drive has been closed to traffic as a result of runoff exceeding the capacity of the culvert and flowing over the road.
Bridge Drive West, between Crowsnest Trail (Highway 3) and University Drive will remain closed to traffic until further notice.
This closure is necessary for crews to deal with the problem caused by the runoff coming down Bridge Drive.
Motorists can access University Drive and the Crowsnest Trail (Hwy #3) via the Highway #25 & Highway #3 interchange.
Motorists are urged to follow the posted detours and to drive with caution and courtesy.
Residents asked to be proactive during rainfall
The City of Lethbridge is asking residents to please be proactive and ensure that all drain pipes and down spouts are running away from your home or property and sump pumps are operational.
Due to the amount of street flooding calls the city is receiving, they are requesting that if residents see a catch basin grate that is blocked, to clear the blockage if able and place the debris on the boulevard.
