The University of Lethbridge is looking ahead to a significantly greater in-person student experience for the fall semester, and to further ensure the health and safety of its campus community, is launching the most important contest in its 54-year history.
Through the It’s Worth A Shot! contest, registered students who receive a COVID-19 vaccination before 11:59 p.m. MDT on September 8, 2021 are eligible to win one of nine grand prizes of full tuition, student administrative fees, fine arts access fee and sport and recreation services fee for the Fall 2021 term (tuition and fees value will be equivalent to the domestic rate for each student). Seven prizes will be awarded to undergraduate students at the Lethbridge campus, one to a student at the U of L’s Calgary campus, and one to a graduate student.
Additional prizes include $500 gift certificates (3) for the University of Lethbridge Bookstore, $20 Bridgebucks prizes (20) and U of L branded socks (100 pairs).
The University will also run a contest for its faculty and staff members, with details to be shared with the U of L internal community in the coming weeks.
“This is an investment we are making in ensuring our campus is as safe as it possibly can be,” says Mike Mahon, president and vice-chancellor. “We know many in our community have been, or are planning to be, vaccinated, while others may need some encouragement to be vaccinated as soon as they are able. Our responsibility is to create a safe campus and contribute to the health of the Lethbridge and Calgary communities, and we anticipate this campaign will have a significant impact.”
Many U of L students, such as those with underlying health conditions, mature and some graduate students, have been eligible to be vaccinated for a number of weeks. Kathleen Massey, associate vice-president (students), says expanded eligibility means the vast majority of the U of L community is now eligible for vaccination.
“Today, the Alberta government opened the vaccination process to Albertans aged 12 years and older. This is a tremendous opportunity for our faculty, staff and students to protect themselves and others,” says Massey. “Through this contest, and through other information campaigns, we will continue to encourage our community members to get vaccinated as soon as they are able.”
The draw for the contest will take place September 10, 2021.
To collect their prize, winning students must be registered after the extended drop date in Fall 2021 and show proof of receiving at least one COVID-19 vaccination prior to September 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Only students who have their names drawn will be asked for proof of vaccination.
