The 2021 Spring Convocation graduating class will be celebrated June 12-19 as the University of Lethbridge once again devotes an entire week to honoring its graduates virtually.
Already, Convocation boxes have been arriving at graduates’ homes in preparation for the week of activities, which will feature video tributes, student features, medal winner profiles and more. A total of 1,475 students will graduate this spring.
“We’re so close to being back to normal and I can see a day when I’ll be able to personally congratulate each and every one of our graduates in person,” says U of L President and Vice-chancellor Dr. Mike Mahon. “Until then, we will work to give them the absolute best convocation experience we can virtually, knowing we’ll all be able to gather again soon.”
Students who graduate this spring will again be invited to attend an in-person ceremony when they resume on campus. Until then, they will celebrate at home with their unique convocation boxes that include a cap and tassel, their diploma, a commemorative program, an alumni booklet, an Indigenous stole for Indigenous students, and honour cords for those who are graduating with distinction or great distinction. Students are encouraged to share their box opening experience, don their caps and take photos or videos of themselves, along with anyone in their household, and post it online using #ulethgrad2021 and #ulethalumni.
A celebration video, community well wishes and more will all be featured on a special convocation web page (uleth.ca/convocation/class-2021) throughout the week. Meanwhile, the Alumni Relations Office, in conjunction with the University of Lethbridge Alumni Association, will introduce its Alumni Welcome Squad through an Instagram campaign that will be asking graduates how they can make their graduation experience more memorable. As well, tonight’s virtual Chancellor’s Reception will feature the conferral of this year’s five honorary degrees and the announcement of the University of Lethbridge Volunteer Award winner.
