Three weeks of intensive preparation culminates with two highly anticipated shows at the University of Lethbridge this weekend.

The Centre for Indigenous Theatre, in partnership with the University of Lethbridge, Departments of Native American Studies and Theatre and Dramatic Arts proudly present: IITAKOHTSSAPAAOPA – the Centre's newest collectively created presentation directed by esteemed director and full-time instructor, Muriel Miguel (Spiderwoman Theater, New York).

A total of 14 students, most from the Lethbridge area, are currently participating in a three-week intensive program delivered by the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in partnership with the University of Lethbridge. They have been working six days per week, 11 hours per day to get an introduction to performing arts techniques from a uniquely Aboriginal perspective. IITAKOHTSSAPAAOPA is the culmination of their efforts.

IITAKOHTSSAPAAOPA features an ensemble cast that includes students, graduates and senior artists. The play runs Friday, Aug. 20 and Saturday, Aug. 21 at the University Theatre. Shows begin nightly at 8 p.m. Admission is by donation (with a suggested donation of $5 for general audiences). Friday's performance will be followed by a question and answer session with members of the cast and production crew.

Renowned actor, director, writer and choreographer Muriel Miguel leads the program at the University of Lethbridge. Respected knowledge keepers Dr. Leroy Little Bear, Amethyst First Rider and Raymond and Greta Many Bears deliver cultural teachings.
