Smart Prosperity Institute | Call for Research Proposals
In 2020, Smart Prosperity Institute released a call for proposals seeking research on climate and environmental policy in the context of COVID-19 and economic recovery. With a post-pandemic economic recovery remaining top of mind for many Canadians, the Greening Growth Partnership and Economics and Environmental Policy Research Network (EEPRN) are launching this new call for proposals. It targets academic research on achieving a green and inclusive recovery and transitioning to a low carbon economy, amidst the changing climate policy context in Canada today given a new federal climate plan.
Research proposals are due no later than 11:59 pm EST on 15 March 2021, with a complete submission comprised of two parts:
• Submission of a completed proposal (see template below) to research.network@smartprosperity.ca
• Completion of the following Google Form
Eligibility
Proposals should describe work that is focused on informing Canadian policy discussions, with projects starting no earlier than 1 April 2021 (backdating of expenses to this date is allowed, given that funding decisions will only be finalized by the end of April). Proposals describing full research projects (i.e. original research, data analysis, case studies) or research development work (i.e. literature synthesis, dataset development) will be considered for funding.
• Full research projects can apply for up to 2 years of funding, with funding for Year 2 conditional on the successful completion of Year 1 deliverables. The maximum funding available is CAD20,000 per fiscal year (for a total of CAD40,000 over 2 years), with projects to be completed by 31 March 2023.
• Research development activities can apply for up to 1 year of funding, with proposals generally not exceeding CAD10,000, for research scoping work to be completed no later than 31 December 2021.
