Visiting & Exchange Students

The University of Lethbridge welcomes visiting and exchange students from other institutions to take courses that transfer to their degree program at their home institution. Continuing University of Lethbridge students intending to study elsewhere should refer the Registration section of the Undergraduate Calendar.

Applicants currently enrolled in a degree program at another recognized degree-granting institution who wish to enrol in courses at the University of Lethbridge for credit at their home institution may be admitted on the basis of a Letter of Permission issued by their home institution.

Application Procedures
Visiting students register for courses as Open Studies students. It is the responsibility of the Visiting student to meet any applicable course prerequisites. Registration in specific courses is not guaranteed. For additional information, see the Registration section of the Undergraduate Calendar.

English Language Proficiency
Visiting students must also satisfy the English Language Proficiency requirement.

Exchange students are admitted on the basis of formal agreements between the University of Lethbridge and another post-secondary institution. Students who would like to participate in an exchange program at the University of Lethbridge apply through their home university. A list of exchange partner institutions is included in the Collaborating and Partnering Institutions section of the Undergraduate Calendar.

Suitable proficiency in English may be demonstrated through the following means:

  1. ELP Assessments
    (Must have been completed within two years prior to the Exchange term).

    1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL (iBT) or TOEFL iBT Home Edition) with a minimum score of 76, with minimum scores of 16 in each Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and a minimum score of 18 in Writing.

    2. Academic International English Languages Testing System (IELTS or IELTS Online) test with a minimum overall score of 6.0, and a minimum 5.5 in each band. IELTS One Skill Retake results are accepted.

    3. Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced, with a minimum score of 169, and a minimum 169 in each subscore.

    4. Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First, with a minimum score of 169, and a minimum 169 in each subscore.

    5. Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic score with a minimum overall score of 51, with a minimum score of 50 in each part.

    6. Duolingo English Test with a minimum score of 105, with a minimum score of 95 in each of Literacy, Comprehension, and Conversation, and a minimum score of 90 in Production.
