Leadership Quality Standard Courses
The University of Lethbridge has been approved by Alberta Education to deliver a two-course package which meets the Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) certification requirement. Each course is 3.0 Credit Hours. Courses are offered sequentially, and are intended to be taken as a package. Students will register in both the Fall and Winter offering (upon approval for registration).

EDUC 5855 Exploring the Leadership Quality Standard (Fall 2024, Sept-Dec)
An exploration of Alberta Education's Leadership Quality Standard and implications for the practice of educational leadership in Alberta.
Sessions will be held synchronously via Zoom. Sessions will run Fridays 5:00-8:00 pm MT and Saturdays 10:00am-4:00pm MT on the following dates:
- September 13-14, 2024
- October 18-19, 2024
- November 15-16, 2024
- December 6-7, 2024
EDUC 5856 Implementing the Leadership Quality Standard (Winter 2025, Jan-Apr)
This course introduces a broad variety of methods in which knowledge and understanding of Alberta Education's Leadership Quality Standard can be enhanced and applied through field studies for professionals in education and education-related contexts in community settings.
Sessions will be held synchronously via Zoom. Sessions will run Fridays 5:00-8:00 pm MT and Saturdays 10:00am-4:00pm MT on the following dates:
- January 10-11, 2025
- February 7-8, 2025
- March 7-8, 2025
- April 4-5, 2025
Minimum requirements:
Individuals must possess a valid permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate and have been teaching for two years to be eligible to complete the courses. Candidates must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the terms containing the last 20 university-graded courses. Undergraduate transcripts will be required as part of the registration process. After submitting the form below email your transcripts to edu.masters@uleth.ca.
Cost:
Cost for each course is approximately $1,000, which includes the graduate course tuition fee and required miscellaneous fees. An additional $140 Open Studies application fee is also required ($60 registration fee and $80 tuition deposit). Refer to the Fee Schedule for details.
Other details:
Registration is first come for those students upon meeting the minimum registration requirements. Space is limited. Courses must be taken in order.
Students completing EDUC 5855 and 5856 may not apply these to the MEd (Educational Leadership) program. Students applying to the MEd (Contemporary Issues in Education) program after completing EDUC 5855 and 5856 may apply for transfer credit at time of admission.
