Biography
Dr. Bomhof completed a dietetic internship at the University of Alberta in 2009 and a PhD in Nutrition and Metabolism at the University of Calgary in 2016. His doctoral research examined the influence of prebiotics and probiotics on gut microbiota and metabolism in obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. His current research is focused on understanding how exercise and diet interact to affect appetite, energy compensation, and body weight.
Research Interests
It is often said that 'you cannot outrun your fork'. Although physical activity is extremely important for maintaining health, it is not always effective for weight loss. Dr. Bomhof's research investigates the impact of exercise and diet on the biological systems that control appetite and energy intake. With a better understanding of how physical activity and nutrition interact to affect energy compensation, his research aims to identify strategies that will help individuals manage body weight and control metabolic health.
