About Me
I began my career as an high school English Language Arts Teacher. I hold a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and a PhD in Secondary Education focusing on writing assessment.
I am passionate about cultivating excellence in the teaching and assessment of writing at all levels of education.
My research focuses on principled assessment design; ethics, justice, fairness, and validity in writing assessment; and the development of writing ability across the life span.

Biography
Since completing my PhD I have served as a Special Advisor on Writing Initiatives to the Deans of Arts and Education at the University of Alberta. I have held professorships at the University of Ottawa and the University of Lethbridge where I currently teach graduate and undergraduate courses in literacy education and classroom assessment. I co-direct U of L's MEd General program in Curriculum and Assessment.
I currently serve as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Assessing Writing.
Previously I have held the position of Board of Governor's Teaching Chair at the University of Lethbridge. Other awards I have held include:
Graduate Student Teaching Award, University of Alberta;
Writing Program Certificate of Excellence, Conference on College Composition and Communication;
President's Achievement Award, University of Alberta;
Issak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship
