Despite more gambling options being available to Canadians, the prevalence of gambling and problem gambling is on the decline throughout the country according to recent Statistics Canada data from the 2018 Canadian Community Health Survey. A recent study out of the Alberta Gambling Research Institute (AGRI) indicates that while these numbers are positive overall, troubling trends still exist.

During National Volunteer Week from April 18 to 24, the University of Lethbridge is celebrating the efforts of all volunteers, including our staff, faculty and students, who continue to offer their services during the pandemic.
“This pandemic has really highlighted a lot of the inequities in our social structure and gaps in care,” says Dr. Shelly Wismath, dean of the School of Liberal Education. “In some ways, there’s a greater need for volunteers than ever, but it has to be done differently with careful attention to health and the need for distancing.”

In a recently published article in ACS Nano, a high-impact nanoscience and nanotechnology journal, University of Lethbridge master’s student Amy Henrickson (BSc ’17) and her collaborators at the University of British Columbia have devised a better way of measuring drug loading in lipid nanoparticle formulations (LNPs) using analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC).

With more than $700,000 in funding over two years from the province’s new Results Driven Agricultural Research (RDAR) fund, Dr. Kim Stanford, a research associate at the University of Lethbridge, will continue her research studies that support the beef industry. Further funding from the Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) will allow Stanford and her collaborators to produce a series of podcasts called Cows on the Planet.
