Student Consent for Co-op Information and Procedures
- Funding and financial support opportunities from SGS, Scholarships and Student Finance and outside agencies are put into abeyance until the end of the work term/s. Funding provided by supervisors may be impacted depending on rules of the funding source.
- Student’s duties and commitments (e.g., Graduate Assistantship, Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA), Research Assistantship (RA)) are suspended and related contracts will need to be renewed/revised at the end of the Co-op work term/s.
- Student’s time granted for the Co-op option is not counted toward the residency requirement and the maximum timeline for completing degree requirements.
- Tuition fees are commensurate with the student’s status in the program (i.e., Co-op tuition fees during work term/s).
PLEASE NOTE: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada restricts work term sequencing for international co-op student placements. International graduate students are encouraged to join the Co-operative Education program in their first semester of study, and no later than 2 semesters prior to thesis completion.
- International students are not permitted to complete their first co-op placement (ASCI 5011 and MGT 5011) after their final academic semester (thesis defense).
- International students are not permitted to complete work terms additional to those required to obtain the Co-operative Education designation. Completing the designation requires two co-op work terms (8 months) for graduate students.
