Scholarship Opportunities
The University of Lethbridge offers students (both undergraduate and graduate) the opportunity to apply for awards, scholarships and bursaries.
The Department of Philosophy is pleased that two of our former department members have chosen to support students in this way.
Award for Excellence in Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy would like students to be aware of the annual $1,000.00 Award for Excellence in Philosophy. This award is available to graduating or continuing Philosophy majors with a minimum of 3rd year standing. The Philosophy Awards Committee will begin looking at eligible students during the Winter semester with the hope to finalize their nomination in May.
Criteria: Academic achievement (may include cumulative GPA or adjusted GPA based on standing in philosophy or logic courses and class participation).
This award was spearheaded by Dr. Kent Peacock who recently retired from the Department of Philosophy after 23 years of teaching and research.
Dr. Ronald M. Yoshida Award in Philosophy of Science
The Department of Philosophy would like students to be aware of the annual $1,500.00 (minimum) Award in Philosophy of Science. This award is available to any full-time undergraduate student and nominations for the award will be provided by the instructor.
Criteria: Academic achievement in PHIL2233, PHIL2234 or PHIL3412, and contribution to class discussion as recommended by the instructor. Note: In years where the candidate pool is insufficient (i.e., if none of the listed courses offered), substantially similar courses (in philosophy of science) may be considered. Should PHIL2233, PHIL2234 and PHIL3412 be offered in the same year, members of the Department of Philosophy will determine the recipient.
This award was created by Dr. Ronald M. Yoshida, a member of the Department of Philosophy from 1968 to 2022.
