New department appointments announced

The Finance, Facilities and Public Affairs departments at the U of L recently announced three new appointments.

ASSOCIATE VICE-PRESIDENT (FINANCE)

Carrie Takeyasu

The University of Lethbridge Board of Governors recently approved the appointment of Carrie Takeyasu (Certified Management Accountant, MBA) as the new Associate Vice-President (Finance), effective July 1, 2014.

Carrie has served in a variety of roles over her 25-year career at the University of Lethbridge, each increasing in responsibility. She originally joined the U of L in 1998 as a clerk typist and her most recent appointment was as Executive Director, Financial Services, a position she has held since December 2007.

The Associate Vice-President (Finance) reports to Vice-President (Finance & Administration), Nancy Walker, and is a member of the University's senior administrative team. Generally, the position is accountable for the University's operating and capital budgets, including financial planning for University priorities as determined by senior administration and the Board of Governors. The AVP Finance is also responsible for providing comprehensive, accurate and timely financial management for all facets of the University's operations. The units that report directly to the AVP Finance include Financial Services and Financial Planning.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, FACILITIES

TJ Hanson

TJ Hanson assumed the role of Executive Director, Facilities on July 1, 2014 after serving as the Acting Executive Director, Facilities since November 2013.

TJ has a B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and is a Practicing Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta. Hanson has been at the University of Lethbridge since 2007, beginning as the Director, Infrastructure and Engineering. Previously, he served as the Manager, Projects at Canbra Foods, Ltd.

The positon of Executive Director, Facilities reports to the Vice-President (Finance & Administration), Nancy Walker, and is a member of the University's senior administrative team.  The position is accountable for ensuring that all physical plant facilities and grounds of the University are developed, operated and maintained in an effective manner consistent with the needs of the University. Hanson is responsible for providing leadership to the Department of Facilities, with responsibility for Campus Safety, Campus Planning and Architecture, Project Management Office, Facility Operations and Maintenance and Facilities Administration.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS ADVISOR

Caroline Zentner

Caroline Zentner has joined the Public Affairs team in University Advancement as a Public Affairs Advisor, effective July 1, 2014. Zentner comes to the U of L after spending the last 14 years as a reporter at the Lethbridge Herald. A graduate of Lethbridge College’s Communication Arts Program, Zentner also has a bachelor of psychology from the University of Saskatchewan. She is very familiar with the U of L, having spent the past several years as the Herald’s education reporter and will be responsible for telling the University’s story through the exploits of its faculty, staff and students.
