Pronghorn track star Jim Steacy added another achievement to his international track resume, winning the silver medal in the hammer throw at the 2009 Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Universiade silver medal adds to his international collection that includes a gold medal from the 2007 Pan American Games and a silver from the 2005 Commonwealth games, only to name a few.
Steacy had an exceptionally consistent meet, yesterday in the qualifying round, Jim only needed one throw to qualify for the finals. In the finals he registered all six of his throws in the grid and all above 71 meters. His second throw of 74.60 meters was a seasons best until his final throw.
On his sixth, Steacy having already clinched the silver medal, upped his season best of 74.88 meters, but fell more than two meters short of the winning throw of 76.92 of Yury Shayunou of Belarus.
This is Jim's second trip to the Summer Universiade, finishing 10th in 2005 in Izmir, Turkey.
Steacy completed his Pronghorn career as one of the most decorated track athletes in Horns history, compiling 9 Canada West and 9 CIS medals, including 16 gold, and was undefeated in the weight throw versus CIS competition over his career.
