University of Lethbridge remote sensing researchers are hosting an international working group meeting of specialists in the calibration and validation of infrared and visible optical data from Earth observation satellites.

Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 11 and 12), approximately 30 researchers from as far away as Brazil and Israel will meet at the U of L.

These specialists are members of the Infrared Visible Optical Sensors (IVOS) Subgroup of the Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) of the international Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS).

The IVOS mission is to ensure high quality calibration and validation of infrared and visible optical data from Earth observation satellites and validation of higher level products.

This is accomplished via international collaboration on the part of the world's space agencies and affiliate organizations.

This is the first time this group has met at the University of Lethbridge, through the efforts of Dr. Phil Teillet (Physics and Astronomy) an IVOS member and the only Canadian representative.
