An impressive weekend split and a superb debut performance earned Steven Brown and Jaleesa Johnston Pronghorns Male and Female athlete of the Week honours respectively.
Brown, a co-captain of the Pronghorns men's soccer team, provided outstanding leadership on the defensive side of the ball. The fifth-year defender helped solidify the Horns' back line and, after a solid opening game Saturday, the Horns turned that confidence into a 1-0 upset victory over Victoria Vikes on Sunday afternoon. Brown even assisted on the winning goal, firing the initial shot on net that resulted in a rebound opportunity for the score.
On the women's side, the Pronghorns dropped both their Canada West opening matches, but may have found a keeper in the process. Johnston replaced starter Ashley Cowan for the second half of the season debut against Trinity Western Spartans and stopped all six shots she faced.
The next day, despite surrendering four goals, Johnston made an amazing 16 saves to keep the game close. Her 22 saves in two games leads the Canada West conference.
