The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns swept the Canada West awards this week, taking both the female and male Athlete of the Week honours after outstanding performances from the women's rugby and men's hockey teams.
Kayla Moleschi, Lethbridge (rugby)
First-year student-athlete Kayla Moleschi continued her torrid pace during her rookie season, scoring four tries in two games this past weekend at the Canada West championship in Calgary.
During Friday's semifinal win over the Victoria Vikes, Moleschi scored two tries to lead the way in a 31-14 win.
Kayla set the tone early Sunday afternoon in the championship game, scoring a try just 45 seconds into the match. She scored her second try early in the second half of the 'Horns' 41-0 win over the Alberta Pandas to claim the team's sixth consecutive conference title.
Moleschi was also named the Canada West Rookie of the Year and a Canada West All-Star.
Scott Bowles, Lethbridge (hockey)
Fifth-year goaltender Scott Bowles had a sensational weekend, stopping 62 of the 66 shots he faced in leading the Lethbridge Pronghorns to a three-point weekend versus the CIS fifth ranked Saskatchewan Huskies.
Friday night, Bowles turned away 30 of the 31 shots the Huskies directed his way to secure the 'Horns second win of the season, 3-1.
Saturday night, he followed that performance with another 32 saves in the 'Horns 3-2 overtime loss.
With his 101st career Canada West regular season game on Saturday, Bowles is tied for second all-time in games played by a conference goaltender. He is also the active leader in wins (47) and shutouts (5).
