Derek Waldner and Katlyn Olsen led the way for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's and women's basketball teams over the weekend, earning Horns Subway Atbletes of the Week honours as a result.
Fourth-year post Derek Waldner had an impressive weekend to help the 'Horns men's team extend its winning streak to three games with a pair of victories over the weekend.
Friday night, Waldner registered his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He was 6-for-11 from the field in the 'Horns 88-61 win over the UBC-O Heat.
The next night, Waldner was two rebounds short of his second consecutive double-double, and finished the night with another 14 points to go along with 8 rebounds in the 106-93 win over Thompson Rivers.
On the women's side, first-year Pronghorn Olsen led the way as the 'Horns swept their weekend starts. Olsen combined for 35 points in the two games.
Friday night, she hit on seven of her 11 shots, including an impressive 6-for-9 from behind the arc, and led all scorers with 25 points.
In the weekend finale, Olsen led all 'Horns scorers with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting and registered three rebounds and three assists. The Red Deer College transfer is averaging just over 11 points in her first four games in a 'Horns uniform and leads the conference in three pointers made with 13.
