Kolb to speak at concussion seminar

Prominent University of Lethbridge neuroscientist Dr. Bryan Kolb will be one of the keynote speakers at an evening information session for parents, athletes and coaches interested in learning the science behind head injuries and how to prevent the effects of a concussion.

The Alberta Sport Development Centre Southwest is hosting the event, 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28 in PE250.

The session will feature a number of highly respected and knowledgable individuals in respect to this topic. Dr. Kolb will discuss the immediate and long-term effects a head injury can have as it relates to the neuroscience aspect. He will be joined by Dr. Joel Weaver, a local practitioner, who will present on the steps to identify a concussion and how the road to recovery should take place. Kerry Goulet, from the Stop Concussions organization, will be in attendance with additional educational information and an eye opening summary of the true effects of concussions and post concussion syndrome. Goulet will also be bringing a message from former NHLer and Chief Relations Officer of Stop Concussion, Keith Primeau.

Primeau will offer an insightful perspective on the seriousness of concussions. Primeau suffered a number of concussions while he was in the NHL, and he will speak to how these head injuries have affected his life both on and off the ice.
