The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women's rugby team picked up right where it left off and the Horns men's soccer team bounced back with a character performance, earning Kelsey Willoughby and Colin Pattison Pronghorns Athlete of the Week nods.
Willoughby helped the women's rugby team open the Canada West season with two impressive wins over the Victoria Vikes and UBC Thunderbirds, 63-0 and 48-7, respectively.
The second-year flanker led the Horns by starting a variety of offensive attacks with her strength and speed, scoring tries in each contest. Defensively she was a dominant presence with an overwhelming number of tackles.
On the men's side, Pattison, the Horns keeper, had an outstanding weekend in goal as he made an impressive 20 saves over a two-game series that saw the Horns tie the Trinity Western Spartans and lose a close game to the CIS 2nd-ranked UBC Thunderbirds.
Against the then 7th-ranked Spartans, Pattison made seven saves to secure a 1-1 draw. He then made 13 total saves in a 3-0 loss to the powerful T-Birds. Through five appearances this season, Pattison leads the conference in saves with 35.
