University offers support to provincial government, Fort McMurray residents

The University of Lethbridge, along with all Albertans, is deeply concerned by the wildfire that is affecting the city of Fort McMurray and has reached out to the Government of Alberta to offer any support it can in dealing with this crisis.

President Mike Mahon has made it known to government officials that the University is willing to provide any assistance the government might need in helping those affected by the wildfire.

In 2013, the University was able to provide temporary housing for evacuees of the High River flooding emergency.

“The University of Lethbridge has been a key resource during past disasters that have affected the communities we serve," says Mahon. "We have the capacity to help in challenging situations like the one we see in Fort McMurray and have indicated our willingness to do so in any capacity we can."

The U of L has been an educational choice for a number of Fort McMurray area students over the years and has many alumni who either grew up in the community or are living there currently.
