A pair of basketball players earned University of Lethbridge Subway Pronghorn Athlete of the Week honours.
Third-year guard Lauren Taal (Lethbridge) played a major factor in the Horns earning their first Canada West victory and a sweep of Pacific Division foes this past weekend.
Friday night, in the Horns' 81-75 win over Thompson Rivers, Taal led all scorers with 21 points, equaling a career high. On Saturday night, Taal was given the daunting task of shutting down Canada West leading scorer Jane Meadwell. While Meadwell picked up 18 points, only six were with Taal on the floor and, as a group, the Horns only allowed two first quarter points and a season low 58 points overall. Taal picked up five points and registered another four steals in the Horns' 75-58 win over Fraser Valley.
After transferring from the University of Calgary, first year Pronghorn Jeff Price (Calgary) has stepped right into the Horns lineup and made an immediate impact.
Friday night, in the Horns' second consecutive win, Price picked up a double-double with a game high 26 points and 10 rebounds. He also recorded seven assists in a 84-75 win over Thompson Rivers.
The following night, Price registered another 17 points and four assists in the Horns' 82-77 loss to Fraser Valley Cascades.
Through six games this season, Price is fourth in Canada West scoring, averaging 19.8 points per game, and is third in the conference in assists per game with 5.5.
