University of Lethbridge Pronghorns track athlete Heather Steacy maintained her winning ways at the Toronto International Track and Field Games on Wednesday.
The Canadian senior women's hammer throw champ dominated an international field by throwing 69.34 metres to win the gold medal. Her throw was more than 1.5 metres better than the second place effort of Canadian Sultana Fritzell, who managed a throw of 67.81m. Third place went to American thrower Gwen Berry at 64.99m.
Steacy had four qualifying throws, all of which were better than the third place distance.
The event was the finale of the inaugural National Track League. The league is built to mirror track and field series in Europe and meant as an opportunity for top Canadian athletes to have solid competition at home.
