Mantas place sixth at national lifesaving championship event

The University of Lethbridge Max Bell Mantas Lifesaving Club placed sixth out of 17 teams at the recently concluded Canadian Pool Lifesaving Championships in Edmonton.

The 10-member team, coached by Michelle Petriw and Alex Sura, was one of five Alberta teams participating in the meet. The individual members were: Dallas Walker, Alex Sura, Teran Hancock, Megan Berling, Alice Federkeil, Ryan Plante, Gessina Deweerd, Brett Nordin, Reed Hamilton and Bri Tilleman.

The swimmers posted a number of eprsonal best times throughout the meet and also claimed varuous medals in their respective classes.

Walker earned a bronze medal in the Girls 20-29 100-metre Rescue Medley, as well as a bronze medal in the 100-metre Tow with Fins. Hancock claimed gold in the Boys 16-19 100m Tow with Fins. Nordin also won bronze in the Boys 16-19 100m Tow with Fins. Meanwhile, the 16-19 year old Boys Relay Team, consisting of Hancock, Plante, Nordin and Hamilton earned bronze in the 100m Manikin Relay and in the 200m Medley Relay.

On the international front, Walker has earned a spot on Team Canada for the 2016 World Lifesaving Championships, which will be held this September in the Netherlands. As well, both Walker and Hancock will represent Canada on the 2016 Europe Tour, which includes the German Cup and the Orange Cup, to be held in Germany and the Nethlerands, respectively, in November.
